Lijst van ziekten en aandoeningen van de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie die met acupunctuur behandeld kunnen worden.

Aandoeningen of ziekten waarvoor acupunctuurbehandeling is getest in gecontroleerde klinische onderzoeken, zoals beschreven in recente literatuur, kunnen in vier categorieën worden ingedeeld, als volgt:

1. Ziekten, symptomen of aandoeningen waarvoor acupunctuur – door middel van gecontroleerde onderzoeken – bewezen effectief is als behandeling:

  • Adverse reactions to radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy

  • Allergic rhinitis (including hay fever)

  • Biliary colic

  • Depression (including depressive neurosis and depression following stroke)

  • Dysentery, acute bacillary

  • Dysmenorrhoea, primary

  • Epigastralgia, acute (in peptic ulcer, acute and chronic gastritis, and gastrospasm)

  • Facial pain (including craniomandibular disorders)

  • Headache

  • Hypertension, essential

  • Abdominal pain (in acute gastroenteritis or due to gastrointestinal spasm)

  • Acne vulgaris

  • Alcohol dependence and detoxification

  • Bell’s palsy

  • Bronchial asthma

  • Cancer pain

  • Cardiac neurosis

  • Cholecystitis, chronic, with acute exacerbation

  • Cholelithiasis

  • Competition stress syndrome

  • Craniocerebral injury, closed

  • Diabetes mellitus, non-insulin-dependent

3. Ziekten, symptomen of aandoeningen waarvoor alleen individuele gecontroleerde onderzoeken zijn die een therapeutisch effect aantonen, maar waarvoor acupunctuur het proberen waard is omdat behandeling met conventionele en andere therapieën moeilijk is:

  • Chloasma

  • Choroïdopathie, centraal sereus

  • Kleurenblindheid

  • Doofheid

  • Hypofrenie

  • Prikkelbare darm syndroom

  • Neurogene blaas bij ruggenmergletsel

  • Chronische longhartziekte

  • Obstructie van de kleine luchtwegen

4. Ziekten, symptomen of aandoeningen waarvoor acupunctuur kan worden geprobeerd, mits de behandelaar beschikt over specialistische moderne medische kennis en de juiste apparatuur:

  • Kortademigheid bij chronische obstructieve longziekte

  • Coma

  • Stuiteringen bij zuigelingen

  • Coronaire hartziekte (angina pectoris)

  • Diarree bij zuigelingen en jonge kinderen

  • Virale encefalitis bij kinderen, in een laat stadium.

  • Progressieve bulbaire en pseudobulbaire verlamming
